Description

If you’re looking to brighten up a shady area in your garden, meet ‘Fire Island’, a hosta lily with leaves that emerge screaming yellow on red stems from the base of the ground up into the leaves – a truly stunning contrast! In midsummer, hummingbirds will love the lavender flowers that rise on tall scapes above the mounds of corrugated leaves with distinctly rippled margins. A vigorous grower that thrives in the shade.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a dense mound 18 to 24 inches tall and up to 3 feet wide, Fire Island Hosta Lily is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings, massed as a groundcover in landscape borders, or as a border along walkways and paths. It has been so reliable and such a strong performer for us that we have no problem at all suggesting it for use as an accent or in groupings in home foundation plantings. It is perfect under large shade trees, decks, covered porches and any other shady location. Don’t think you have any shade? Look on the east side of your home. Also nice in pots, planters and other containers and a fine addition to mixed hosta gardens, woodland gardens, and the hummingbird garden.
Suggested Spacing:  24 to 30 inches apart for mass plantings; 4 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences
Fire Island Hosta Lily is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and part shade to shade. It prefers the shade, and will practically grow in the dark, so is perfect for planting under tall decks and large shade trees where not much sun shines. That said, morning or evening sun or all-day filtered sun is okay. Direct afternoon sun can scald the leaves, especially in warmer climates.

When a customer emails, you may think it’s a complaint headed your way. Not this email!!! I’ve now planted all that I ordered and couldn’t be more pleased. All the specimens arrived well protected with moisture paper taped around the stems in the pots. They were packed securely, too. This gardener will be ordering again.
Thanks for the care you take.———————————————————————————————————–We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
Beautiful and unusual hosta adds to the understory of my Japanese Cutleaf Red Maple.. Price a bit high., perhaps because of the free shipping. I would recommend this plant.———————————————————–We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
Due to the cold weather we continue to have, I have not been able to plant the flowers yet. What I can tell you is that all of the flowers listed below are flourishing profusely. They have more than doubled in size and a couple of them have tripled. I do hope it warms up soon as they are getting too big for the house. I am anxious to see them grow around my pond and water garden area.
The packaging you sent them in was perfect for their transport. They all looked like they had been sitting on a shelf in a greenhouse rather than being pitched around in transit. I do admit the packaging was a bit of a puzzle getting them out, but well worth the effort.
I did debate on purchasing them due to the price, but I am pleased with what you sent. Your website is awesome. It answered all my questions.
A happy gardener. ————————————————————-We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the kind words and awesome review! Beth | WBG 🙂

I just wanted to let you know that I found your website when I was looking for a Magnolia tree, the place that I ordinarily used was unable to get Magnolias. When the tree arrived it was packaged so well and it was an excellent plant, I was so impressed that I have since ordered more plants. I just thought you should know that you now have a new lifetime customer and I will be recommending your company to others.
Thank you so much, keep up the good work.————————————————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Thanks for the awesome review and the kind words! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
