Description

A 1983, University of Georgia release, Brightwell Rabbiteye is named after esteemed UGA blueberry developer, Dr. James Brightwell, and is considered by many among the top varieties in the world! Best known for its reliability and its long, sustained harvest period (~ 35 days), Brightwell is ideal for almost any planting application. It has very vigorous, upright growth – and because it flowers late, it is highly resistant to freeze damage. Brightwell is a heavy producer of medium size berries, with excellent flavor, and dry stem scar. It is also known for its very firm, uniformly round berries – a favorite for mechanical harvesting/commercial processing.
NOTE: All of our fruit plants are grown in containers outdoors so they are fully rooted and landscape-ready upon arrival.
Growing Preferences

Blueberry plants grow best in an acidic (pH of 4.8 to 5.2), organically rich, moist, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. The more sun the better for best berry production. The shallow, fibrous roots of blueberry plants like a consistently moist but well-drained soil which can be provided by with a layer of organic mulch.
Although blueberries are self-fertile, cross-pollination produces the best fruit crop (larger berries and larger yields). Therefore, it is best to plant more than one variety that will bloom at the same time. Blueberry season can be extended by planting early, mid-season and late varieties. Make sure to plant two different cultivars/varieties for each season.

The blueberry plants arrived safe and sound. Wilson Bros packs all their plants so very well and when they ship, they arrive so quickly the soil is still moist. Several months ago I was searching for a particular plant which brought me to Wilson Bros. I am not tech savvy but the website was excellent. Extremely easy, fast, answered all of my questions, and has a wonderful system. If the product is sold out, they email you to let you know that they now have it in stock. Delivery is fast, always packed carefully. I have never had a plant that was not perfect when I opened the box. I literally have spent thousands of dollars with Wilson bros and I will continue to do so. I have only called the company once, and they answered my question, were extremely knowledgeable and very pleasant to talk with. Pricing was great, no more Home Depot or Lowe’s. I have 25 acres in Odessa Florida with a gazillion Wilson Bros plants and this is the only company that I will purchase plants from.——————————————————We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the wonderful review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
I received my order of blueberries yesterday. I was so impressed with the quality of the plants! I had such a hard time trying to find a nursery selling rabbit eye blueberries. I was a little nervous buying online because many times you just don’t know what you are going to get. I said many times between pulling them out of the box and putting them in the ground, “I can’t believe how good these look!” I look forward to seeing them leaf out this spring!
Thank you!——————————————————–We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the kind words and awesome review! Beth | WBG 🙂

I’m very satisfied and was skeptical buying when I could not see the plant. I ordered in April and shipped quickly. It arrived in good condition, soil still damp and very well boxed. Planted it a few days later and it has been in the ground now a couple of weeks now. It is thriving and doing well. Checkout was easier here than other online nurseries which made me feel a little more secure in purchasing.—————————————We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Blueberry plants arrived healthy and intact. Packaging super impressively secure. Plants very moist. I really like all the information available on Wilson Brothers website. EVERYTHING is covered. I got 4 plants of two varieties that are cross pollinators. That info is handily right there. Planted as instructed. So far so good. Looking healthy. Also referred to University of Florida website for tips specific to Florida.—————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! The blueberry plant that I ordered was shipped very quickly and was well packaged. The blueberry plant was exactly as described and appeared very healthy. Since it is Fall, I won’t get to really enjoy this plant until next Spring, but based on my experience so far, I highly recommend Wilson Brothers Gardens.——————————————-Hi Wesley, Thanks so much for taking the time to provide your review of the Brightwell Rabbiteye Blueberry. I want you to know that prior to my purchase of these Brightwell blueberry plants from you I purchased other varieties from “name omitted.” What I received from the other company was a disgrace. They had one 3 foot skinny cane with a few leaves on the top and a few little branches on the bottom that were not impressive. That is why I went searching for another plant seller and found Wilson Bros.Thank goodness. I could not believe the beautiful fullness and healthy condition of the blueberry bush I purchased from you. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. ——————– WBG Reply: Hi James – Thanks so much for your review of the Brightwell Blueberry bush and for your compliments! It makes everything we do even more worth the while. Let us know if thee’s ever anything else we can do for you. We’re at your service! – Brent | Wilson Bros Gardens
